Trip to El Paso

As many of you know, I am in the Army Reserve. Serving my country is an honor. Each summer the Army requires that I travel, so I took a trip to El Paso. That is one reason I haven’t blogged in a few weeks. Well, this summer, I took a trip to El Paso, Texas. Let’s just say that it was not what I expected.

Scenery of El Paso

I thought that West Texas would be this flat desert land. Those were misconceptions, of course. When I arrived, I was surprised to find the Franklin mountains situated amongst the city, essentially spitting in half, east and west. El Paso can actually be translated as “the pass”.

The Franklin mountains are a beautiful range of mountains that rise over a mile above sea level. Some friends and I hiked up them with the peak being around 7,000 feet. I couldn’t make a phone call due to the lack of service between the mountains, but I managed to snap a few pictures.

A Little Trip to New Mexico

We drove out to New Mexico one weekend to take in some of the sights. The small town of Cloudcroft sits around 9,000 feet in elevation. The temperature went from around 100 degrees in the valley to 79 degrees at the top of the mountain. The view from there was spectacular. You could see White Sands from an overlook. We drove out to visit White Sands National Park also. The sand is so fine, it is like touching powder. I have more pictures available on Instagram 😉

A Little Bit of Reborn

Although I missed my family greatly, I am glad I got to take a trip to El Paso and to see all wonderful things El Paso had to offer. I had great ambitions of getting some work on Reborn completed during this trip. Unfortunately, I was unable to get much work done. I did get to speak with one of my beta readers who had all good things to say about the novel. Of course, I will be getting the last few revisions completed, hopefully over the next two weeks.

I saw so many wonderful things while in El Paso. There are several that made an impression on me and I will likely use them as settings for future novels. If you would like to see more pictures of my trip, check out my Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Also, keep an eye on social media and my website for updates on Reborn.
