Ever looked at the mundane world around you and wished that you could you could use magic? Do you wonder what it would be like to be a wizard? Or, like in The Matrix, just download a program and become some Kung-Fuing ninja? Would you like to escape to a world like that? Then Off To Be The Wizard is the book for you.
Off To Be The Wizard: Magic 2.0 Book 1
Off To Be The Wizard is Scott Meyers first book in a modern fantasy series called Magic 2.0. The book blends fantasy, magic, and realism that is set both in modern times and medieval towns. You get a taste of both magic and technology.
Martin Banks is your every day, normal, run-of-the mill kind of guy. He fights through the mundane 9 to 5 job to get home to his boring apartment. In his spare time, and there is likely a lot of it, he enjoys doing a little “ethical” hacking, searching different corporate websites to see if they have any information on him.
One night, he accidentally stumbles upon a file that contains information about him. He decides to make a few changes to the file and finds out that it affects things in his life. What if someone finds out what he is doing? Can he get in trouble? A contingency plan is what he needs. But, where to go?
The Middle Ages, of course. He could use his phone to control the file and the people of that time would think that he is a wizard. How hard could it be? Right?
When he is forced to use his contingency plan, he is whisked away to the Cliffs of Dover in England in the 1400s. He soon finds out that he is not the only wizard in England and that there is one named Merlin that he will soon be introduced to. Now he has to hone his craft to not only fit it, but to survive.
Conclusion
This book has the perfect blend of fantasy trope and humor. Once you pick it up, you will not want to put it down. I highly recommend the audio book as the narrator does a spectacular job. If you like fantasy and you like a good laugh, then you need to check out Off To Be The Wizard. You will not be disappointed.
